Hams, out of excitement forget to configure some essential settings in JTAlert software and end up working lot harder than its needed. Be organised, and you will save a lot of time and get better results.

1) Connect your offline logbook with JTAlert:

If you do not connect and link your logbook with JTAlert, it’s not going to understand which country is required for DXCC, which Prefix you need for the Prefix Award, similarly for Grid Awards,  Zone awards and US State awards.

What JTAlert does after linking is, it handshakes with your Logbook and scans the database and keeps a record of it, that means when you receive CQ calls or see callsigns having QSO with somebody, you know exactly, whether you want that station or not for a particular award.

Please Note: The logbook should be stored on your computer and not on the internet. You should preferably use only DXLan DXKeeper, HRD, Log4OM or ACLog which is supported by the JTAlert software.

2) Show country name below call Signs:

JTAlert not only displays the country name with the callsign but has many other features like presence on LoTW and eQSL or not and few more filters.

As you can see in the image above, it is necessary to select the option “Show DXCC Names Below Callsigns” that will display the country names.

3) Set your preferences for Awards

Randomly replying to the CQ calls is not going to solve your purpose completely, setting the right goal via selecting the options is the correct way to move ahead.

You should choose the award that you want to chase, as you can see in the image above.

Once you select the award, the 2nd important step to complete this process is to scan the logbook and let JTAlert know which all country you have already (For DXCC), and which all are needed.

See the image below, you need to click on the “Scan All (enabled)” button and save it. That’s it.

This process can be done manually also. Let’s say you have 11 countries already, and you need 89 more from the remaining entities.

What you can do is add those 11 countries manually in the “Not Wanted” list as shown in the Image Below, and you are all set for your goal.

Similarly, the same process can be done manually for other awards also like Prefix, Zone, US State and all. 73 de VU2NFJ.
